Aeolian Islands, IT
In 580 BC
The Aeolian Islands are a volcanic archipelago located in the Tyrrhenian Sea north of Sicily. Their present shape is the result of volcanic activity spanning 260,000 years. In 580 BC, Greeks exiled from Rhodes and Knidos settled at Lipari, initiating a period of Greek domination marked by piracy against Etruscan and Phoenician ships.
