Balmoral Castle, GB

William Smith of Aberdeen designed the castle

Balmoral Castle is constructed from granite quarried at Invergelder on the estate; the new house was completed in 1856, and the old castle was later demolished. William Smith of Aberdeen designed the castle, with amendments made by Prince Albert. Space was needed for Victoria and Albert's growing family, additional staff, and visiting friends and official guests. Balmoral is the private property of King Charles III and is not part of the Crown Estate. Queen Elizabeth II, who died there on 8 September 2022, made it her summer residence.
