Bam is a city in Kerman province
Bam is a city in Kerman province, Iran, serving as the capital of Bam County and its district. The ancient citadel of Arg-e Bam dates back to the Parthian Empire (248 BC–224 AD). In 943–977, Ibn Hawqal, a traveller and geographer, noted in his book Surat-ul-'Ard that Bam produced excellent, beautiful, and long-lasting cotton cloths exported worldwide. The 2003 Bam earthquake struck Bam and the surrounding Kerman province at 01:56 UTC on December 26, 2003, with a magnitude of 6.6 on the moment magnitude scale, according to the United States Geological Survey.
