Banff National Park, CA
In 1931, during the Great Depression
The Canadian Pacific Railway constructed the Banff Springs Hotel and Lake Louise Chalet to draw visitors and boost rail passengers. The park's design aimed to cater to hunting enthusiasts, tourists, and game conservation efforts, while also attempting to 'civilize' the First Nations in the area. In 1931, during the Great Depression, the Government of Canada implemented the Unemployment and Farm Relief Act, which funded public works projects within the national parks.
