Cocos Island is a volcanic island
Cocos Island is a volcanic island in the Pacific Ocean administered by Costa Rica; it was annexed by Costa Rica in 1832 by decree No. 54 of the Constitutional Assembly. Since 1978, Cocos Island has been a Costa Rican National Park. In 1997, it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its unique ecology and surrounding waters.
