Djenné is a town and urban commune in the Inland Niger Delta region of central Mali. Djenné-Jéno was first settled around 200 BC. Soninke immigrants from the Wagadou region founded Djenné-Jéno during an increasingly dry period that made the Inner Niger Delta more habitable.
