École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées, FR

Forming École royale des ponts et chaussées

Initially, without a lecturer, fifty students taught themselves geometry, algebra, mechanics, and hydraulics. They completed their training through visits to building sites, collaborations with scientists and engineers, and participation in the drawing of the kingdom's map. Following the creation of the Corps of Bridges and Roads in 1716, the King's Council decided in 1747 to establish a dedicated training course for the state's engineers, forming École royale des ponts et chaussées.
