The Empire State Building rises 102 stories in Midtown South, New York City. Construction began on March 17, 1930, and the building opened on May 1, 1931, after thirteen and a half months. Shreve, Lamb & Harmon designed the structure. Its facade uses Indiana limestone panels from a quarry in south-central Indiana. These panels give the building a distinctive blonde color. Since 1933, it has appeared in more than 250 films and television series.
