Ephesus, TR
Which had been the capital of Arzawa
Attic and Ionian Greeks founded it in the 10th century BC, on the site of Apasa — which had been the capital of Arzawa. They built on the hill now known as Ayasuluk, three kilometres from what became the centre of the ancient city. Landlocked Lydia needed one, and that made Ephesus an important ally.
