The main building of ETH Zurich was constructed from 1858 to 1864 under Gustav Zeuner, with Gottfried Semper as the architect. ETH Zurich was founded on 7 February 1854 by the Swiss Confederation. In 2026, ETH Zurich entered a ten-year partnership with IBM focused on artificial intelligence and quantum computing research.
