Limiting workdays to 12 hours
Glarus is the capital of the Swiss canton of Glarus. On January 1, 2011, it incorporated the former municipalities of Ennenda, Netstal, and Riedern. After a fire in 1861, the town was rebuilt in a block layout based on plans by Bernhard Simon and Johann Caspar Wolff. In 1864, Glarus introduced the first European labor law, limiting workdays to 12 hours.
