Hatra, IQ
Situated between the Roman and Parthian/Sasanian Empires
Hatra was a fortified caravan city with a circular plan, encircled by inner and outer walls nearly 2 kilometres in diameter and supported by more than 160 towers. It served as the capital of the Kingdom of Hatra, situated between the Roman and Parthian/Sasanian Empires. Hatra flourished in the 2nd century before being destroyed by the Sassanid Empire and abandoned in the 3rd century, alongside other Neo-Assyrian states such as Assur, Adiabene, Osroene, and Beth Nuhadra.
