A consortium named Six Companies
The Hoover Dam is a concrete arch–gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the boundary between the U. S. states of Nevada and Arizona. A consortium named Six Companies, Inc. submitted the winning bid to build the dam. Construction began in 1931 and finished in 1936. The dam was built to control floods, provide irrigation water, and produce hydroelectric power.
