Huangshan, CN
It was certified as a National Geopark
Huangshan is a mountain range in southern Anhui province in eastern China. The mountains were formed approximately 100 million years ago during the Mesozoic era when an ancient sea disappeared due to uplift, and later, in the Quaternary Period, glaciers shaped the landscape. In 1982, Huangshan was declared a site of scenic beauty and historic interest by the State Council of China. It was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990 for its scenery and as a habitat for rare and threatened species. Subsequently, it was certified as a National Geopark, then as a regional geopark (Asia Pacific Geopark Network), and admitted as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2004.
