Konya, TR

Around 3000 BC

People were living here in the Late Copper Age, around 3000 BC. The Phrygians arrived in the eighth century BC, and Xenophon wrote the place down as Iconium. Then it was renamed twice: Claudiconium under Claudius, then Colonia Aelia Hadriana. Much later a church to Saint Amphilochius went up inside the citadel of Kaballa, in the tenth or eleventh century, holding the saint's tomb.
