Kremlin, RU

Oak first, then white limestone

It was an oak palisade until Dmitri Donskoi replaced it with a citadel of white limestone in 1366–1368, on roughly the foundations the walls still follow. The walls as they now appear went up between 1485 and 1495. The Grand Kremlin Palace was a residence of the Tsar; it is now the residence of the president.
