Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, UA
And Grand Hetman Konstanty Ostrogski
Prince Iziaslav I of Kyiv ceded the mount to Anthonite monks in 1024, who built the monastery with architects from Constantinople. Anthony, a monk from Mount Athos, originally from Liubech, returned to Rus' and settled in Kyiv as a missionary of monastic tradition. The monastery's founding date is disputed, noted in the Primary Chronicle as either 1051 or 1074. Within its grounds, several prominent figures from the Grand Duchy of Lithuania period were buried, including Prince Vladimir Olgerdovich, his son Aleksandras Olelka, Grand Duke Švitrigaila, Feodor Ostrogski, Uliana Olshanska, and Grand Hetman Konstanty Ostrogski, who commanded the Grand Ducal Lithuanian Army in the victorious Battle of Orsha in 1514.
