Three provinces became one prefecture
Three old provinces were merged in 1868 to make it: Tango, Yamashiro and the eastern part of Tanba. The same year it took the suffix fu, under the Fuhanken Sanchisei. As of 2021 eight companies on the Forbes Global 2000 were based here, Nintendo and Kyocera among them.
