Lausanne Cathedral was consecrated in 1275
Lausanne is the capital and largest city of the Swiss French-speaking canton of Vaud, in Switzerland. The Romans built a military camp, which they called Lousanna, at the site of a Celtic settlement. During the decline and after the fall of the Western Roman Empire, insecurity in the mid to late 4th century AD forced the residents of Lausanne to move to its current centre. This hilly site was easier to defend than the original location. Lausanne Cathedral was consecrated in 1275. The city remains a significant location within the canton today.
