Lorentz National Park, ID
It was established in 1997
Lorentz National Park is an Indonesian national park spanning the provinces of Central Papua, Highland Papua, and South Papua, located in the southwest of western New Guinea. It was established in 1997. In 1919, the Dutch Colonial Government first protected a 3,000 km² core area of the Lorentz landscape by creating the Lorentz Nature Monument. As of 2005, the park had no assigned staff or guards, and its conservation success largely relied on local community understanding and support.
