A priest and historian from the Ptolemaic Kingdom

Memphis was the ancient capital of Inebu-her, the first nome of Lower Egypt, known as mḥw ("North"). Manetho, a priest and historian from the Ptolemaic Kingdom, recorded in the early third century BC that King Menes founded the city. Legend held that Menes established his capital on the Nile's banks by diverting the river with dikes. The city occupied a strategic position at the mouth of the Nile Delta, serving as a hub of activity. Its principal port, Peru-nefer, featured a high density of workshops, factories. Warehouses that distributed food and merchandise throughout the ancient kingdom.
