Founder of the Islamic Emirate of Córdoba

The Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba was built in 785–786 (169 AH) and completed in 786–787 (170 AH); Abd al-Rahman I, founder of the Islamic Emirate of Córdoba, ordered its construction. The mosque reused existing Roman and Visigothic columns and capitals. In 1236, after Córdoba was captured by Christian forces during the Reconquista, the Great Mosque was converted into a cathedral.
