Murom, RU
During the Middle Ages
Murom is a historic city in Russia first mentioned in 862. Its name derives from the Finnic Muroma tribe that inhabited the area. During the Middle Ages, Murom was the center of the Principality of Murom. Around 900, it served as an important trading post connecting Volga Bulgaria to the Baltic Sea. Peter and Fevronia and features a fine cathedral built in 1642–1643, the Kazan Church from 1652, a bell-tower from 1652, a wooden church of St. Sergius, and stone walls.
