Nimrud, IQ

In the Nineveh Plains of Upper Mesopotamia

Nimrud is an ancient Assyrian city in Iraq, situated 30 kilometres south of Mosul and 5 kilometres south of Selamiyah, in the Nineveh Plains of Upper Mesopotamia. It was a major Assyrian city from approximately 1350 BC to 610 BC. King Ashurnasirpal II selected it as his new capital and began building an entirely new city, including a royal palace designed to surpass all those of earlier Assyrian rulers.
