Nova Gorica, SI

A former pupil of Le Corbusier

Nova Gorica is a planned town built according to modernist architectural principles after 1947. The first projects were laid out in winter 1947, with construction beginning the following year. The project was commissioned to Slovenian architect Edvard Ravnikar, a former pupil of Le Corbusier. To address the need for a unified urban space, the Communist authorities of the Socialist Republic of Slovenia decided to create a new settlement connecting existing suburbs. Since May 2011, Nova Gorica has been joined with Gorizia and Šempeter-Vrtojba in a trans-border metropolitan zone, administered by a joint board.
