Nyon is a municipality in Nyon
Nyon is a municipality in Nyon District in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. The Romans founded this place between 50 and 44 BC under the name of Colonia Iulia Equestris or Colonia Equestris Noiodunum. An amphitheater, which was discovered in 1996, was probably built in the early 2nd century AD; a ten-kilometre-long aqueduct, which ran from the Divonne area to the colony, provided the water supply. This long water channel connected the distant Divonne region to the Roman settlement.
