Okavango Delta, BW

Spreading over the 37,500 km2 delta by June

The Okavango River, whose name originates from the Kavango people of northern Namibia, carries water 1,200 km from the Angola highlands in January–February, spreading over the 37,500 km2 delta by June. By June, flood levels peak, swelling the delta to three times its permanent size and attracting wildlife from kilometers around. In 2014, the Okavango Delta became the 1,000th UNESCO World Heritage Site.
