Including the Temple Mount and Western Wall
The Old City of Jerusalem features walls and gates constructed by the Ottoman Empire between 1535 and 1542 under Suleiman the Magnificent. It houses significant religious sites for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, including the Temple Mount and Western Wall, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and the Al-Aqsa Mosque Compound with the Dome of the Rock and Qibli Mosque. In the Byzantine period, Jerusalem was expanded southward and enclosed by additional city walls.
