Palazzolo Acreide is a town and comune in the Province of Syracuse, Sicily; Founded around 664 BC, it occupies the site of the ancient Akrai. A Norman castle once stood at the heart of the new city, but it no longer exists. The old city was likely destroyed by the Arabs in the first half of the 9th century.
