Linked to the Andean orogeny of the Tertiary

The Pantanal is a vast natural region encompassing the world's largest tropical wetland area and the world's largest flooded grasslands. It is the result of a large, concave, pre-Andean depression of the Earth's crust, linked to the Andean orogeny of the Tertiary. The Pantanal is home to one of the largest and healthiest jaguar populations on Earth.
