The Oscans founded five villages here
The Oscans founded five villages here, and the first stable settlements date to the 8th century BC. Growth picked up after 450 BC under the Greeks. In the early 5th century BC the walls were strengthened with two façades of thin Sarno limestone slabs, set vertically.
