Princes' Islands, TR
The Princes' Islands consist of nine separate islands
The Princes' Islands consist of nine separate islands. The Halki seminary was founded on October 1, 1844, on Heybeliada. During the Byzantine Empire, exiled princes and royalty were sent to the islands, and after 1453, Ottoman sultan family members were exiled there as well, giving the islands their present name. The seminary's premises, maintained by the monastery, are now used for hosting conferences. The islands were historically a place of exile for royalty.
