Pyongyang is the capital and largest city of North Korea. The city's master plan was designed by Kim Jung-hee, appointed by Kim Il Sung, and first displayed publicly in a theater on July 27, 1953. Pyongyang became the de facto capital of North Korea in 1948. Under Kim Jong Un's leadership, the city has experienced a significant construction boom.
