St. Lawrence River, CA

Ultimately draining into the Gulf of St. Lawrence

The St. Lawrence River begins at the outflow of Lake Ontario and flows past numerous towns and cities, ultimately draining into the Gulf of St. Lawrence. It is a large international river connecting the Great Lakes with the North Atlantic Ocean. The river was formed from the draining of the Champlain Sea, which resulted from the rebounding continent after the Last Glacial Maximum. The Champlain Sea existed from about 13,000 years ago until about 10,000 years ago. The estuary of the St. Lawrence is often cited by scientists as the largest in the world.
