Titicaca, BO

From the late Oligocene to the late Miocene

Titicaca sits in the Tinajani Basin, a pull-apart basin — ground dragged open sideways along faults, from the late Oligocene to the late Miocene. Volcanic rock accumulated in it between 27 and 20 million years ago. The lake is nearly closed: water leaves by a single outlet, the Río Desaguadero.
