Victoria Falls, ZM
Into a transverse chasm 1,708 metres wide
The basalt it falls over was formed in the Jurassic, about 200 million years ago. The full width of the Zambezi plummets at once, in a single vertical drop, into a transverse chasm 1,708 metres wide. Research in the late 2010s found that precipitation variability is likely to alter the character of the falls.
