Yellowstone National Park is a national park of the United States located mainly in the northwest corner of the state of Wyoming, with small portions extending into Montana and Idaho. The 42nd U. S. Congress established the park through the Yellowstone National Park Protection Act. President Ulysses S. Grant signed the act into law on March 1, 1872. In 1978, Yellowstone was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The United States Congress passed the protection act before the President signed it.
